Residence Life Additional Safety Protocol (PDF)

Dear Students,

As follow up to President Prather’s message announcing our Return to Campus Plan, Fortify Franklin, I would like to share with you additional information about safety procedures and protocol that will be in place for Fall semester. Our success in mitigating risk depends heavily on your willingness to participate in these strategies. Following safe practices in class and during the day does no good if we fail to employ the same safe practices in other contexts and situations. We know Franklin College is your home away from home and we want to do everything we can so that it continues to feel that way. Some of these recommended and required practices may initially feel unusual, but will soon become second nature. Your willingness to participate is evidence of your commitment to the safety and wellness of the Franklin College community.

In particular, this message will focus on Residence Halls and Dining procedures. A comprehensive plan from the Office of Residence Life and Parkhurst Dining is above, but I’d like to draw your attention to a few important elements of our safe return to campus this fall.

  • No guests, who are not Franklin College students, will be allowed into the Residence Halls.
  • Students who test positive for COVID-19, or who are identified through contact tracing as someone who has been exposed to COVID-19, will be asked to quarantine or isolate at home (their permanent residence), or in limited campus housing, which has been identified for quarantine and isolation.
  • Should the need arise, the college will schedule students’ meal times to reduce crowd size and maximize social distancing in the cafeteria. Students’ class schedules and athletic schedules will be considered in assigning meal times.
  • All procedures are subject to change as we have new information or guidance from the CDC or local health officials.

We are hosting a Town Hall Zoom for students on Monday, August 17th at 1:00. Please attend and ask questions. We want you to understand the plans we have put in place. If you’re unable to participate in the Town Hall, don’t hesitate to reply to this message and I will do my best to answer your questions.

We can’t wait to see you in a few short weeks! In the meantime, be safe and take care!

Best wishes,

Dean Jones
