Coronavirus Update – March 12, 2020

Dear Students,

I understand you may have lingering questions and concerns in light of the message that went out tonight from President Prather. That message represents the best guidance and information we have from our local health experts at this moment in time. We will continue to monitor the situation daily (honestly, by the minute) and adjust our protocol as necessary in accordance with the medical advice we receive.

It’s perfectly reasonable for you to have questions and to seek additional information. I’d like to attempt to provide you with that information and dispel myths as much as possible so that everyone has reliable, factual information about the virus and the college’s response to it.

To that end, I’m holding open office hours on Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 and 3:00 – 4:00. Any student may stop by the Campus Life suite in the Student Center to speak with me and I’ll do my best to answer your questions and address your concerns. We may not be able to solve every problem in that moment, but we can start a conversation and identify next steps. Please note: this is not the protocol if you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing; if you’re experiencing those symptoms, please follow the guidance in President Prather’s message and call your primary care physician or the college health clinic.

The Franklin College community does a good job taking care of each other and I know this situation will be no exception. We’ll work through this situation together and keep each other healthy and learning!

Best wishes,

Dean Jones
