Coronavirus Update – May 4

Dear Students,

As you have likely seen, the Governor is initiating Stage 2 of his Indiana Back on Track plan, which takes effect May 4th. As such, we will begin to implement our protocol for students to return to campus to retrieve your belongings. Please see below the guidance I sent to you earlier in April, which remains the outline for our plan. Please note that we will follow the same practice for all residents, including students living in Greek and graduate housing.

We will follow up on Monday with additional information from Residence Life about how to schedule your appointment to return to campus. Please bear in mind that, for everyone’s safety, and in accordance with standard practice when students are away from campus, card access to your building is off. You will not be able to access your room except during the time block that you schedule with Residence Life. (Of course, this doesn’t apply to those few students who have been approved to live on campus due to extenuating circumstances.)

Thank you all for your patience as we implement a plan that allows us to keep our students and community safe.

Stay safe and stay tuned for more information soon.

Best wishes,

Dean Jones

  • Residence Life will be scheduling appointments over roughly a three-week period for move-out; students will be able to choose a time that works in their schedule and we will be as flexible as possible to accommodate your schedule
  • We will allow anyone who is immunocompromised to schedule their move-out first, before others return to campus
  • Students will be asked to limit the number of people they bring to campus with them
  • We will limit the number of students moving out of a particular unit at any given time
  • We will schedule 24 hours in between roommate move-outs to allow for cleaning (of door knobs, light switches, etc.)
  • We will be much more lenient in allowing summer storage for students form far distances or who are unable to return to campus; information on how to request storage will be included in subsequent messaging from Residence Life about move-out procedures
