Coronavirus Update – July 28, 2020

Dear Students,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to you today in regards to your upcoming participation in a Franklin College Study Away Immersive Term course in January.

Given the increasing uncertainty related to travel, Franklin College has made the difficult decision to suspend all Immersive Term Study Away courses traveling in January 2021. The college prides itself on offering study away courses that fully immersive students in a different environment. As the college cannot guarantee safe and immersive opportunities off-campus, all courses have been canceled.

Please review the following for important information related to course cancelation:

Program Refunds

All funds received for the travel experience will be returned via the method in which they were received:

  • Credit card payments: The Business Office does not keep credit card information on file. Students who paid via credit card must contact the Business Office to verify the credit card details that the refund should be credited to. Refunds for deposits made via credit card cannot be processed until a student reaches out to the Business Office. Please contact the Business Office at (317)738-8031 to discuss a credit card refund.
  • Check/Cash payments: Students who paid by check or cash will be issued a refund via check from the Business Office. Students will be contacted when the check is ready for pick-up at the Business Office.
  • Loan payments: Students who paid the deposit via student loan transfer should contact the Office of Financial Aid to cancel the loan request. Please contact the Director of Financial Aid, Vinny Vincent-Dunn (JVincent-Dunn@franklincollege.edu).

International Credit

With the canceling of Immersive Term Study Away courses, there may be students needing International credit to graduate in May 2021. The following International courses have remaining spaces available for Fall enrollment:

  •  Spanish 210: Intermediate Spanish
  • French 210: Intermediate French I
  • History 300: Intro to African History

Details on course meeting times can be found on Self-Service (ss.franklincollege.edu). International courses are no longer offered by the college in Immersive Term. A limited number of International courses will be offered this Spring. Students needing an International course to graduate in May 2021 who are having difficulty registering should contact the college’s Registrar, Lisa Mahan (Registrar@franklincollege.edu). It is recommended that students communicate with their academic advisors before making any schedule changes.

Application Materials

All application materials received, including passport copies and medical forms, will be securely destroyed by the college.

For seniors who will be missing this opportunity to explore the world, I am truly sorry. If I can ever assist you in planning an independent travel experience, even after graduation, please do not hesitate to reach out.

For undergraduate students, please look for information on January 2022 courses to be released in early spring.

I wish you all the best as you wrap-up summer vacation. Should you have any additional questions, please reach out.

Best,

Jenny
