Coronavirus Update – August 5, 2020

As we continue our efforts to prepare for the fall semester, I want to share with you the communication strategy outlined as a follow-up to Monday’s distribution of our Return to Campus Plan.  As you can imagine, the implementation guidelines pertinent to each functional area of the enterprise were much too lengthy to include in the initial document.  We chose to emphasize the overarching principles that are most widely applicable and then follow up with the more detailed guidelines in separate communications that can be more easily digested and understood.

To that end, we will be distributing emails starting later this week to specifically address the implementation guidelines for the following areas:  residence halls and dining (Dean Andrew Jones); Academics (Dean Kristin Flora); cleaning and disinfecting protocols (Assistant VP Tom Patz); and Co-Curricular and Greek Life (Dean Jones).  As mentioned in the release of the Plan, we will also be sharing social media reminders over the coming weeks to help create a consistent mindset for how we will all help ensure a safe and effective start to the semester.

In addition, we have scheduled town hall meetings for the purpose of clarifying aspects of the Plan about which questions remain as we set about implementing it together.  Those virtual (Zoom) sessions have been scheduled as follows:

Students: Monday, August 17, 1:00-2:00 pm
Faculty: Tuesday, August 18: 10:30-11:30 am
Staff: Tuesday, August 18: 2:30-3:30 pm.

Again, my appreciation cannot be overstated to the faculty and staff members who have worked tirelessly since late May to develop the Return to Campus Plan.  On behalf of your colleagues and especially our students, please know that your above-and-beyond work is recognized and very much appreciated.
