Coronavirus Update – April 30

Dear Students,

Franklin College received this week its allotment of emergency funds provided for direct disbursement to students for assistance in meeting COVID-19-related expenses.  These funds were provided as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Per guidance from the Department of Education, we are distributing this money to all full-time, Title IV-eligible students based on demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA.  Students are required to document their individual need for such assistance by submitting this form: Emergency Relief Grant Application.  Funds will not be available to students until we receive this required form.

Forms are now available and being accepted.  The deadline to submit the form will be Tuesday of each week, and checks will be processed within 7 to 10 days.  All monies will be dispersed as a check and mailed to the address on file.  Students should verify the proper address by logging in to MyFC prior to submission of the form.  The overall deadline to submit a form will be Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

At this time, there is some confusion about whether these funds will ultimately be considered taxable income for students, so we advise that you retain receipts as documentation of COVID-19-related expenses.

We are pleased to provide our students with this financial assistance as they and their families manage the challenges associated with this pandemic.  If you are unsure as to your eligibility or have other concerns, please direct questions to the college’s financial aid office at finaid@franklincollege.edu.

We look forward to welcoming our returning students back to campus in August and celebrating Commencement with our graduating seniors in October.

Best regards,

Kerry Prather
