Inaugural #FCGivingTuesday Proves Successful for Franklin College
Campus News

SquirrelFranklin College participated in the globally recognized giving day, GivingTuesday, on Dec. 3, 2019, exceeding the day’s fundraising goal by nearly 100 percent. The college raised $9,871 during #FCGivingTuesday, far surpassing its goal of $5,000 in donations for the day.

“We are so very grateful to the donors who generously supported #FCGivingTuesday,” said Dana Cummings, vice president for development and alumni engagement. “We are working diligently to make sure we can offer the best educational and cultural opportunities to our students, and we rely on the generosity of donors to help provide scholarships, study away opportunities and so much more for our students.”

The money raised during this one-day giving initiative goes toward the Franklin Fund, helping provide tuition assistance for Franklin College students who qualify, as well as opportunities for learning and discovery, technology and travel, and other meaningful engaged learning experiences.

Franklin College’s participation in GivingTuesday was its first, creating a campaign themed “5K in a Day” featuring the popular campus squirrels as a way to stand out. Emails, featuring the abundant campus critters, went to alumni, donors and friends of the college. The Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE) staff involved in putting the campaign together used social media, especially Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to market this 24-hour fundraising event. In addition, DAE staff and Alumni Council members personally called many donors to remind them about the giving day.

GivingTuesday, created in 2012, is always the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity, with nearly 50,000 philanthropic organizations participating.
