Franklin College will host its eighth annual Day of Giving Challenge, #GivetoGRIZ, on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
Donations through #GivetoGRIZ will continue support of the college’s mission. They will also help cover unexpected expenses associated with the need to make alternate learning a reality due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation for social distancing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes things such as a web-based conferencing system and increased access to an online platform for course instruction, along with additional cleaning supplies and anticipated costs associated with the basic needs of our students. The goal is to raise $150,000 to support the college’s highest priorities through the Franklin Fund. Meeting this goal will “unlock” over $50,000 from the college’s challengers, who have pledged money toward the challenge goals for this specific day.
The Franklin Fund also provides tuition assistance for Franklin College students who qualify for need-based assistance as well as other essential college needs that support the learning environment for students. Nearly 100 percent of the college’s students receive some form of financial aid, many of whom would not otherwise be able to afford a college education.
This year’s day of giving will not include any in-person gatherings or person-to-person meetings to comply with the CDC’s recommendation of social distancing. The college is planning to use social media, especially Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to market this 24-hour fundraising effort, as well as email and other college communication formats. Two online contests will be available for entry throughout the day – one featuring participant’s pets and another featuring future Grizzlies. Prizes will be announced during the day of giving.
The one-day giving challenge began in 2013 with a successful effort, earning the Franklin College Office of Development and Alumni Engagement a Silver Award in their district from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Each year the college has met and exceeded its goal. Last year was the most successful giving day to date for the college, raising $165,288 from 1,012 donors.
Those having questions about the one-day challenge may contact Lee Ann Jourdan, assistant vice president for alumni engagement and annual giving, by phone at (317) 738-8755 or email at ljourdan@FranklinCollege.edu.
