“The Franklin” Announces Editorial Staff for 2023-2024

The Franklin, founded in 1904, is an independent publication managed by student editors at Franklin College’s Pulliam School of Journalism. It is part of the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame and has been recognized by the ACP in numerous award categories. It is a monthly magazine as well as online website. The award-winning publication recently announced their new editors and staff for the 2023-24 academic year.

Ashlyn Myers, a junior from Franklin, will serve as executive editor. Myers majors in multimedia journalism. She served as a Pulliam Fellow during the 2022-23 academic year and interned with the Daily Journal newspaper over the summer.

Jack Sells, a senior from Indianapolis, will serve as managing sports editor. Sells is a multimedia journalism major. He is a member of the men’s cross country and track and field teams.

Sydney Byerly, a senior from New Albany, will serve as web editor. Byerly majors in multimedia journalism and is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Elijah Roberson, a junior from Martinsville, will serve as news editor. Roberson majors in public relations and spent the summer interning with the United States Auto Club, working with the NASCAR Youth Series.

Maggie McGuire, a senior from Plainfield, will resume her role as photo editor. McGuire is a double major in biology and ecology and is a member of Student Foundation. McGuire spent part of the 2022-23 academic year interning with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Department where she studied manatees.

Zane Spangler, a senior from Martinsville, will serve as video manager. Spangler is a sports communication major and a member of the golf and esports teams. He also runs his own video production company.

Cameron Baker, a senior from Shelbyville, will return as opinion editor. Baker is majoring in sports communication. He is a member of the men’s swimming and diving team and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Bessie Kerr, a senior from Indianapolis, will serve as opinion editor for the second year in a row. Kerr, a sports communication major, is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and the lacrosse team.

Sam Wilson, a sophomore from Greenfield, will serve as co-sports podcast creator. Wilson is a public relations major and is a member of the cross country and track and field teams and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Jonah Decker, a sophomore from Indianapolis, will serve as co-sports podcast creator. Decker is a member of the cross country and track and field teams and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
