Music Faculty to Present Recital
Events and Lectures

The Franklin College Music Department faculty will present a recital on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. The recital will take place in Custer Theatre, located on the first floor of Old Main. The event is free and open to the public.

Faculty performing include:

Eric DeForest, D.M.A. – Voice. DeForest is an assistant professor of music. He is a classically trained opera singer and has performed nationally and internationally. DeForest has a bachelor’s degree in music from State University of New York, a master’s degree in music from West Virginia University and a doctorate in music from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a resident of Indianapolis.

Kati Harrison – Viola. Harrison is a lecturer of music, performer and violinist. She has a bachelor’s degree in music from Butler University and a master’s degree in music from The Hartt School. She is a resident of Carmel.

Casey Hayes, Ph.D. – Piano. Hayes is a professor of music, the A.J. Thurston Endowed Chair of Music, chair of the music department and director of choral activities. Hayes has a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in music from Butler University and a doctorate degree from New York University. He is a resident of Franklin.

Jonathan Rice, D.M.A. – Saxophone. Rice is a lecturer of music theory and applied woodwinds. He has a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University, master degrees from Texas Tech University and the University of Arizona, and a doctorate in music from Texas Tech University. Rice is a resident of Franklin.

Chang Shen – Piano Accompanist. Shen serves as the piano accompanist for Franklin College. He has a bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory and a master’s degree from Towson University, both located in Maryland. He is a resident of Franklin.

Josh TorresPercussion. Torres is a lecturer of music. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in music from Butler University. He also serves as director of percussion at Center Grove High School. He is a resident of Indianapolis.

Ross Venneberg, D.M.A. – Trumpet. Venneberg serves as the visiting assistant professor of music and director of instrumental activities. He has a bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary’s College of California, master’s degrees in music from the University of Wisconsin –Milwaukee and Manhattan School of Music in New York, and a doctorate of music from the University of Washington. He is a resident of Greenwood.
