The public is invited to participate virtually in these celebratory campus events:
10 a.m. – Chapel Service: Join us for an opportunity to participate in a spiritual grounding moment as we enter into a day of celebration to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Noon – Dr. King’s Other Dream: Economic Equality Panel: We have little trouble remembering Dr. King’s legacy as a civil rights icon, but we rarely examine his work on the topic of economic equality. Join us as we host a panel discussion to dive into this topic.

2 p.m. – Reflection Through the Art of Spoken Words: We will be joined by spoken word artist and alumna Taylor McElwain ’19 who will take us on an oral poetic performance in the spirit of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

4 p.m. – Convocation Lecture – “No Man Is An Island: Social Justice Is Everyone’s Work” – Lecturer Dr. Alexandria White: Advancing social justice and equity for all is for the benefit of our society. Being able to find common ground and understanding with all people is essential to progress in our communities, our universities and our world. As a human race, we must understand that social justice is everyone’s work and everyone can contribute.

The college is also hosting a Children’s Book Drive throughout the week of January 18-22. New and gently used books can be dropped off to the college at the Napolitan Student Center. Visitors to the campus may call (317) 738-8119 when they arrive on campus and a staff member will come to their vehicle to pick up the donation. They may also call or email diversity@FranklinCollege.edu to arrange pick up of book donations. Anyone who makes a donation will receive a free water bottle.
