Franklin Faculty to Present Recital
Events and Lectures

The Franklin College Music Department Faculty will present a recital on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. The performance will take place in the Clarence E. and Inez R. Custer Theatre, located on the first floor of Old Main. The event is free and open to the public.

Faculty performing include:

Eric DeForest, D.M.A., – Voice. DeForest is an assistant professor of music. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from State University of New York, a master’s degree in music from West Virginia University and a doctorate in music from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a resident of Franklin.

Kati Harrison – Viola. She is a lecturer of music. She has a bachelor’s degree in music from Butler University and a master’s degree in music from The Hartt School. She is a resident of Carmel.

Casey Hayes, Ph.D., Piano. Hayes is a professor of music, the A.J. Thurston Endowed Chair of Music, chair of the music department and director of choral activities. Hayes has a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in music from Butler University and a doctorate degree from New York University. He is a resident of Franklin.  

Rachel Jackson – Piano. She is a lecturer of music and the director of piano studies. She has a bachelor’s degree in music from Wright State University and a master’s degree in music from Butler University. She is a resident of Indianapolis.

Jonathan Rice, D.M.A., Saxophone. Rice is a lecturer of music theory and applied woodwinds. He has a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University, master’s degrees in music from Texas Tech University and the University of Arizona, and a doctorate in music from Texas Tech University. Rice is a resident of Franklin.

Chang Shen – Accompanist. Shen is the music department accompanist. He received his bachelor’s degree in music from Peabody Conservatory and his master’s degree from Towson University, both in Maryland. He is a resident of Franklin.

Josh Torres – Director of Percussion Activities. Torres is a lecturer of music. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in music from Butler University. He also serves as director of percussion at Center Grove High School. He is a resident of Indianapolis.

Ross Venneberg, D.M.A., – Trumpet. Venneberg serves as the visiting assistant professor of music and director of instrumental activities. He has a bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary’s College of California, master’s degrees in music from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Manhattan School of Music in New York, and a doctorate of music from the University of Washington. He a resident of Greenwood.
