Franklin College Trustees Approve Faculty Tenure, Promotions

The Franklin College Board of Trustees granted continuous tenure and/or promotion to eight faculty members.

The granting of tenure by the board is a significant moment for the faculty member and the college, as it affirms their mutual commitment.  For faculty, it means that they have chosen to dedicate their careers to the college and its students. For the college, it is a way to acknowledge their achievements and to ensure continuity.

The following faculty members were granted promotion to full professor:

Jamie Bromley, Ph.D., a resident of Franklin, is a professor of psychology and current department chair. She joined the college in 2009 and was granted tenure in 2015. Bromley earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Dallas, her master’s degree from Duquesne University and her doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Akron.

Casey J. Hayes, Ph.D., a resident of Franklin, is a professor of music, director of choral activities, music department chair and holds the Thurston Endowed Chair of Music. He joined the college in 2009 and was granted tenure in 2015. Hayes received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education and choral conducting from Butler University, and his doctorate in music education from the Steinhardt School of Education, New York University.

Jason Jimerson, Ph.D., a resident of Greenwood, is a professor of sociology and department chair. He joined the college in 2001 and was granted tenure in 2007. Jimerson earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and management from Earlham College, his master’s degree in sociology from the University of Virginia and his doctorate in sociology from the University of Chicago.

Randall Smith Ph.D., a resident of Greenwood, is a professor of political science and department chair. He joined the college in 2009 and was granted tenure in 2015. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Quincy University, his master’s degree in political studies from the University of Illinois at Springfield and his doctorate in political science from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The following faculty members were granted tenure and promotion to associate professor:

Callista Buchen, MFA, Ph.D., a resident of Franklin, is an associate professor of English. She joined the college in 2015. Buchen earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, her master’s degree in English literature from the University of Oregon, her master of fine arts degree in creative writing and poetry from Bowling Green State University, and her doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Emily Jones, CPA, MBA, a resident of Trafalgar, is an associate professor of accounting. She joined the college in 2013. Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Franklin College and her master’s degree in business administration from Butler University.

George Phillips, Ph.D., a resident of Franklin, is an associate professor of English. He joined the college in 2015. Phillips earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Emory University and his master’s and doctoral degrees in English from the University of Kentucky.

Ryan Rush, Ph.D., a resident of Franklin, is an associate professor of psychology and will begin serving as the department chair at the start of the 2021 fall semester. He joined the college in 2016. Rush earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine University, his master’s degree in cognitive psychology and his doctorate from the University of California, Riverside.
