College’s Annual Day of Giving Announced
Events and Lectures

Franklin College will host its ninth annual Day of Giving Challenge, #GivetoGRIZ, on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

The money raised will go to the Franklin Fund to provide tuition assistance for Franklin College students who qualify for need-based assistance as well as other essential college needs that support the learning environment for students.  Nearly 100 percent of the college’s students receive some form of financial aid, many of whom would not otherwise be able to afford a college education.

The goal is to raise $175,000 to support the college’s highest priorities through the Franklin Fund, with at least 1,000 people making a gift on April 14.

Those wishing to give during #GivetoGRIZ will find the URL to do so via the college’s website, www.FranklinCollege.edu, and social media platforms during the 24-hour fundraising event.

This year’s day of giving will not include any in-person gatherings or person-to-person meetings to comply with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation of physical distancing. The college is planning to use social media, especially Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to market this 24-hour fundraising effort, as well as email and other college communication formats. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day to donors.

The college also plans to use Zoom video conferencing to unite professors, students, staff members, alumni and friends in virtual chat “Zoom Rooms” throughout the day, including:

8:00 to 9:00 a.m. – Coffee with Faculty

Noon to 1:00 p.m. – Center for Diversity and Inclusion highlights engagement with students

2:00 to 2:30 p.m. – Getting over the afternoon slump with Athletic Training and Exercise Science

6:00 to 7:00 p.m. – Happy Hour with the Pulliam School of Journalism

7:30 – 8:30 p.m. – Impersonations hosted by Rafael Sánchez, WRTV Channel 6 anchor/reporter and 1992 alumnus of the college, and 2008 alumnus Matt Taylor, the official radio voice of the Indianapolis Colts.

All events are open to the public and available for registration at https://franklincollege.edu/alumni/events/.

The one-day giving challenge began in 2013 with a successful effort, earning the Office of Development and Alumni Engagement a Silver Award in their district from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Each year the college has met and exceeded its goal. Last year was the most successful #GivetoGRIZ to date for the college, raising $247,971 from 1,086 donors.

Those having questions about the one-day challenge may contact Lee Ann Jourdan, assistant vice president for alumni engagement and annual giving, by phone at (317) 738-8755 or email at ljourdan@FranklinCollege.edu.
