College Student Newspaper Announces Editors, Staff

The Franklin is an independent publication managed by student editors at Franklin College’s Pulliam School of Journalism. It is part of the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame and has been recognized by the ACP in numerous award categories. It is a monthly magazine as well as online website. The award-winning publication recently announced their new editors and staff for the 2022-23 academic year.

Isaac Gleitz, a senior from Corydon, will serve as co-executive editor. Gleitz double majors in multimedia journalism and Spanish and is a member of the band and president of EARTH Club.

Sydney Byerly, a junior from New Albany, will also serve as co-executive editor. Byerly majors in multimedia journalism and is the director of fraternity heritage for Pi Beta Phi on campus.

Ashlyn Myers, a sophomore from Franklin, will serve as news editor. Myers majors in multimedia journalism and plans to do freelance work and hunt for internships this summer.

Amy Garrido Portillo, a sophomore from Greenwood, will serve as opinion editor. Portillo is a political science major with a pre-law track, with minors in Spanish and multimedia journalism.

Elijah Roberson, a sophomore from Martinsville, will serve as sports editor. Roberson majors in public relations and plans to intern at The Fan sports radio station over the summer.

Maggie McGuire, a junior from Plainfield, will serve as photo editor. McGuire is a double major in biology and ecology and is a member of the swimming and diving team. She plans on going on a road-trip down south to explore marine biology master’s programs this summer.

Alexa Shrake, a senior from Martinsville, will serve as web editor. Shrake majors in multimedia journalism and is interning at the Evansville Courier & Press and writing feature stories for the Franklin College Office of Communications this summer.

Zach Roberts, a senior from Zionsville, will serve as video manager. Roberts is a double major in multimedia journalism and political science with a pre-law track and will be working for The Statehouse File this summer.

Bessie Kerr, a junior from Wilkinson, will serve as social media manager. Kerr majors in multimedia journalism and plans to be involved working in her hometown this summer.
