College Brings “Proof” to Local Stage
Events and Lectures

The Franklin College Theatre Department will present Proof at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17 through Saturday, Nov. 19, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20. All performances will be in Théâtre Margot in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts.

Written by David Auburn, this 2000 dramatic play follows Catherine on the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday. She has spent years caring for her recently deceased father, a brilliant but troubled mathematician. Suddenly, she has to deal with the arrival of her estranged sister as well as the attention of a former student of her father’s, who hopes to find valuable work in the volumes of notebooks her father left behind. This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play explores how much of her father’s genius—and madness—Catherine will inherit.

Katy Thompson, an assistant house manager at the Indiana Repertory Theatre, will direct the play. Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre from Franklin College in 2021. She is a resident of Cortland.

General admission is $12. Admission for each performance is $8 for students and seniors (55 and older). Franklin College students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with a valid Franklin College ID.
