Josh Torres

“I believe that music is outlet for self-expression and creativity. I also feel that music is a voice for everyone. There are so many lessons that can be learned through music including teamwork, self-confidence, leadership, and self-control. These are skills that all musicians must work on and in turn, share with the next generation of performers, composers, and educators. This beautiful cycle is what connects our minds to those of the giants like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart.”

Why should I choose Franklin College for music?

Franklin College offers a unique opportunity for students to learn in a very personal environment. Students can rest assured that they will receive a lot of individual attention from their faculty members no matter what their ability level is. Our course offerings continue to grow, allowing students to participate in ensembles such as choir, concert band, pep band, orchestra, and our new African Drumming Ensemble. Our college has shown a willingness to adapt to the needs of our students and offer whatever courses or ensembles the students are interested in.

Selected Professional Accomplishments

I have been very fortunate to experience some incredible opportunities throughout my teaching career. My percussion ensemble at Center Grove is one of a handful of the percussion ensembles in the world that has been invited to perform at both PASIC (2011) and The Midwest Clinic (2010.) Center Grove’s Indoor Drumline was named the Silver Medalist (2009) and Bronze Medalist (2011) in Percussion Scholastic World. I was also honored as a 2013 Indiana Teacher of the Year Finalist as well as the 2012 Center Grove Community Schools Teacher of the Year.  Finally, I served as the director of the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show in 2012. Over 110 million people witnessed a drumline under my direction perform with Madonna.
