As a pure mathematics major, you will develop a broad mathematics background and strong problem-solving skills. While a pure mathematics major provides excellent preparation for graduate school, law school, and professional teaching programs, you can also combine this major with other disciplines as preparation for a position in research, strategic planning, or data analysis.
As a pure mathematics major, you will have the opportunity to conduct your own original mathematical research on a topic of interest to you as your capstone project. Past students have examined the mathematics behind scoring swim meets, delved into predictors of student success in college courses, developed optimal strategies for games, and explored many other topics. With support to travel to and present at regional and national conferences, you will have the opportunity to share your capstone project with the broader mathematics community.
