Franklin College

Chasing Interests

Sam Wilson '26 has followed his interests to get involved at Franklin

Sam Wilson is a junior public relations major from Fishers, Ind. He is a part of the Franklin College Cross Country, Track and Field teams and The Franklin TV news.

Sam’s dad, Andy Wilson, also a Franklin alum, told him to check out the Indianapolis Colts events internship, because “he had worked with a lot of people who started out as interns there.”

This summer he took his dad’s advice and, after interviewing for a position, started working with the events department of the Indianapolis Colts. He helped with the preseason events in the summer, including barbecuing with the players, Olympic trial events and the ‘Colts in Motion’ museum on wheels.

Wilson said that his experience as an athlete prepared him for the “long days in the summer at training camp. It was lots of setting stuff up, getting there early and staying all day.”

He was able to develop professional skills as well. Wilson said, “I’ve been able to become more comfortable in making connections and networking in this job.”

He has continued his internship throughout the fall semester, going to games and helping with anything that needs to be done. He recounted that one of his favorite parts of the experience was being able to connect with people his age. “The whole summer had a camp vibe, and I really enjoyed meeting other students outside of Franklin.”

After the Colts season ended, Wilson turned his focus to campus involvement through his many interests.

One of his favorite experiences at Franklin has been working with The Franklin TV news.

“I’ve been able to create stuff myself and with other people. I think when you’re in a class, your assignments are something that you are required to do. When you’re creating something yourself, you put your own passion into it.” — Sam Wilson ’26

Cross Country and the Track and Field team have played a big role in his time at Franklin. The team dynamic has given him the chance to become a better leader.

“Being on the cross-country track teams has been one of my best decisions,” Wilson said. “I have learned the importance of being a leader and setting a strong team culture.”

Sam Wilson is planning to graduate in May 2026. Looking to the future he said, “I really want to see where this Colts experience goes. All the people I work with started out as interns, so I can tell that it is a loyal organization.”

His time at Franklin has taught him “to put yourself out there as much as possible because you never know what kind of opportunities can arise. Don’t be afraid to go after what you want.”
