Franklin College has launched its first certificate program, offering students the opportunity to develop practical project management skills that complement their general and content-area studies and further prepare them meet rapidly evolving workforce needs.
The new Project Management Certificate is a 12-credit program designed to provide students with a foundation in project management concepts and principles and prepare them to take the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) examination, an industry-recognized credential offered by the Project Management Institute.
“Project management skills are valuable across industries and can be especially beneficial for students pursuing liberal arts and humanities degrees,” said Kristin Flora, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College. “This certificate complements the broad knowledge and critical-thinking skills developed through a liberal arts education by providing additional applied experiences and competencies that support students’ career goals.”
The certificate consists of four courses covering project management fundamentals, predictive project planning, risk management, design thinking and agile processes. The certificate operates in partnership with Rize Education, with three project management courses offered online and the Design Thinking and Agile Processes course offered by Franklin College.
Through the program, students will learn to develop and manage project plans; coordinate schedules, budgets and resources; identify and mitigate risks; work with stakeholders and use versatile approaches to adapt to changing project needs.
Because project management skills are not tied to one academic discipline, the certificate can complement a variety of majors offered at Franklin College. Students can pursue their primary academic interests through a traditional major while adding a professional skill set applicable to careers across a range of industries.
