Music Department Announces Guest Piano Recital Series for Spring 2019

The Franklin College Department of Music will welcome several guest musicians to campus for recitals this spring. Each event is free and open to the public.


  • Franklin College’s Clare Longendyke, lecturer of music, director of the college’s piano studio and organizer of the guest piano recital series, will commence the spring series at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Richardson Chapel. She will perform works by Beethoven, Rachmaninov and Ravel. Longendyke is a passionate soloist and chamber musician recognized for her colorful musicality, technical fluency and her ability to interpret repertoires across the musical spectrum. She has performed recitals across Europe and North America and has won several national competitions. She is currently a doctoral candidate in music at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.


  • Guest Pianist Aleksey Artemyev will visit campus at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, in Richardson Chapel. He will perform works by Bach and Brahms. Born in Uzbekistan, Artemyev studied at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan as a teenager before earning a full scholarship to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.


  • Guest Pianist Timothy Stephenson will perform a solo piano recital program at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 in Richardson Chapel. A native of Boston, Stephenson started his piano career at the age of eight. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree under the tutelage of Norman Krieger at Indiana University. Stephenson’s program will be announced at a later date.
