Franklin College Celebrates Homecoming and Alumni Weekend 2021
Events and Lectures

Franklin College’s annual Homecoming and Alumni Weekend festivities will take place Tuesday, Oct.12 through Sunday, Oct. 17. Events vary from in-person to virtual in nature. Masks are required in all indoor spaces on campus regardless of an individual’s vaccination status.

Registration, when required, is available online at FranklinCollege.edu/alumni/homecoming or by calling (317) 738-8040. The deadline for registration is Thursday, Sept. 30.

The highlights of Homecoming and Alumni Weekend festivities include:

 Art Exhibit featuring Alan Larkin, Tuesday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 17

Alan Larkin, who works primarily in oil and pastel but is also known for his etchings and lithographs, will exhibit his work in the Elba L. & Gene Portteus Branigin Atrium in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts. Larkin is passionate about drawing from life, having taught observational drawing for many years at Indiana University South Bend, where he also ran the printmaking program. He has won many prizes in regional, national and international competitions for his artwork and has work featured in numerous public and private collections. The exhibit will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Free to attend.

 Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet, Thursday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Alumni and friends are invited to join the celebration of a long tradition of athletic excellence. Alumni Jeff Craver ’74, Lindsey Roberson Shaw ’06 and Mark Britner will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The banquet will be held in the Branigin Room of the Napolitan Student Center. Cost is $20 per person and registration is required.

Roy E. Tillotson Alumni Golf Tournament, Friday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m.

The Roy E. Tillotson Alumni Golf Tournament will be held at Hillview Country Club in Franklin. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. The registration fee of $75 per player includes green fees, cart, dinner and prizes. Registration is required.

1971 and 1970 Class Reunion Old Gold Reception and Luncheon, Friday, Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

Honoring the 50th reunion class of 1971 and 1970. This traditional reception and luncheon is open to all alumni graduating in or prior to 1971. The luncheon will be held in the Dietz Center Dining Room in the Dietz Center for Professional Development. Cost is $12 per person and registration is required. Members of the class of 1971 and 1970 will receive two complimentary tickets when registering.

Hail to Franklin Alumni Awards Presentation and Reception, Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
Join Kerry Prather, Franklin College President, as he presents the 2021 Alumni Awards at the Garment Factory, located at 101 E. Wayne St., Franklin. Since 1954, the Alumni Council of Franklin College has had an established award program designed to honor alumni and friends of the college, recognizing outstanding professional/community achievement as well as service to the College. Those to be honored include Yolanda Askew ’90, Distinguished Alumni Award; Leonard Bissonnette ’62, Hail to Franklin Award; and Brad Rateike ’02, Young Alumni Award.  Registration is required. Free to attend.

All Alumni/Class Reunion Gathering, Friday, Oct. 15 from 7-11 p.m.

Join fellow alumni at the Garment Factory, 101 E. Wayne St., Franklin, for an informal gathering. Registration requested. Free to attend.

Faculty Music Recital, Friday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m.

The recital will showcase faculty members of the Franklin College Music Department. It will feature a wide range of musical talents. The performance will be held in the Clarence E. & Inez R. Custer Theatre in Old Main. Free to attend.

Traditional Burning of the Privy, Friday, Oct. 15 at 8:45 p.m.
Join students and fellow alumni for the annual privy burn at the corner of Monroe and Forsythe streets.

Grizzly Football vs. Bluffton Beavers, Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
The Homecoming football game will be played at Stewart “Red” Faught Stadium where the Grizzlies will take on the Bluffton Beavers. Crowning of the Homecoming king and queen will be held at halftime. Admission to the game is $5 per person at the gate for middle school age and up, free for anyone younger and individuals with a valid FC ID.

 The Gathering Reunion, Saturday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.
The annual Gathering reunion is back, and will meet at the Richardson Memorial Chapel. Dinner is provided. Contact Lynn (Park) Cruser ’81 at lynn.cruser@gmail.com for more information.
