Music Department Receives Grant from Franklin Symphonic Council
Campus News

Franklin College announced its music department has received a grant from the Franklin Symphonic Council to establish the Patricia Stevens Distinguished Guest Artists program.

The program is named in honor of the recently deceased Patricia Stevens, a long-time member of the Franklin Symphonic Council and wife of emeritus professor of economics at Franklin College John Stevens.

The grant will fund an annual guest artist at the college. Each guest artist will teach master classes to students, engage with the community and perform a free public concert. The concert series will be known as the Patricia Stevens Distinguished Guest Artist Series.

“This grant will provide the wonderful opportunity for our students to interact with world-renowned musicians, and will provide the opportunity for the greater Franklin community to enjoy a concert by the same,” said Michael Black, music department chair and assistant professor of music at the college. “It is very fitting that this series be named after a dear friend of the arts, Patricia Stevens.”

The college anticipates hosting the first guest artist and concert in the spring of 2022.
