Learn more about the Pathway to Nursing at Franklin College

Students attending Franklin College who complete all the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, chemistry, exercise science or psychology, and meet all admissions standards for the University of Indianapolis’s On-Campus Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, may be granted admission to the competitive Accelerated Nursing Program. Students will begin the Accelerated Nursing Program in May following the student’s junior year at Franklin College.

Admission Requirements

Students interested in applying for the accelerated degree program should apply during their fifth semester (fall of their junior year) of their plan of study and will then be notified of their acceptance by the end of the fall semester. Upon successful completion of their second year at Franklin, students meeting the following criteria may apply for admission to the University of Indianapolis’s On-Campus Accelerated BSN program:

  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or higher
  • Minimum grade of “C” in the prerequisite courses listed below
  • Passing score on the HESI entrance examination
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check

Students will be eligible to walk at Franklin College’s commencement but will not receive their diploma until they have completed the required coursework at the University of Indianapolis and transferred the applicable credits to Franklin. Upon completion of the 15-month Accelerated Nursing curriculum, students will graduate with a BSN from the University of Indianapolis and a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin College in their discipline.

Nursing

Prerequisite Courses

Students following the program curriculum will be required to make certain selections in their courses at Franklin College to satisfy the prerequisite nursing requirements at the University of Indianapolis. Those selections are as follows:

Human Behavior – PSY 117 General Psychology and SOC 118 Introduction to Sociology
Scientific Thinking – ANAT 220 Applied Human Physiology, BIO 134 Principles of Biology, or CHE 121/123 General Chemistry I (determined by major).
Reasoning and Values – PHL XXX (any Philosophy course that fulfills the category) or BIO 225 Bioethics
LA 103 or alternative – MAT 224 Basic Applied Statistics or MAT 135 Calculus (determined by major).

Additional prerequisites for admission to the Accelerated BSN program are required:

  • CHE 121/123 General Chemistry I and Lab
  • CHE 122/124 General Chemistry II and Lab
  • BIO 210 and BIO 215 Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II (Biology and Chemistry majors only)
  • BIO 373 Microbiology or BIO 134 and BIO 140

Nursing At a Glance

  • A Franklin College student must major in biology, chemistry or exercise science.
  • The student remains a Franklin College student during all four years of coursework, and we will work with the NCAA to ensure eligibility for the entire period.
  • Students pay for their education through Franklin College and receive financial aid through Franklin College.
  • Students will earn two degrees upon completion of the 4-year period: a bachelor’s degree from Franklin College in one of the above disciplines and a BSN from the University of Indianapolis.
