Franklin College alumnus Brad Rateike has been named to the Indianapolis Business Journal’s 2020 “Forty Under 40,” the publication’s annual list of 40 central Indiana people under the age of 40 who have become leaders in their fields.
Rateike, a 2002 alumnus, was selected from a pool of more than 200 nominees. A committee of two IBJ editors, IBJ’s publisher and three former ‘Forty Under 40’ honorees then chose this year’s class based on professional success, achievements and community engagement that stands out among other nominees. The end result is a diverse list of honorees that represent a broad spectrum of central Indiana communities and industries.
“Franklin College is extremely proud of Brad for his many professional achievements, and he is certainly worthy of this recognition as one of “Forty Under 40,” said Franklin College Acting President Kerry Prather. “His leadership and influence in the Indianapolis business community are impressive, but we are equally proud of his civic engagement and volunteerism. We are delighted to see Brad included in this group of exceptional young leaders.”
Rateike is the founder of Bar Communications where he has directed public relations strategy and message development for corporate, government and nonprofit clients in the Midwest and in Washington, D.C. since 2010. Brad has created and managed public affairs campaigns for Fortune 50 companies in addition to directing media relations and grassroots outreach for small businesses and startup companies.
Rateike, who served on a congressional campaign team for two years following college before serving in the Peace Corps for two years, has also gained valuable professional experience by working in former Gov. Mitch Daniel’s administration as deputy press secretary and policy director, and serving as director of cabinet communications for the White House at the beginning of the Trump-Pence administration.
In his free time, Rateike mentors Franklin College students, serves as a reading coach at a Wayne Township elementary school and volunteers for the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation. He and his spouse, Lawren Mills, reside in Indianapolis.
