A Career in Athletic Training

Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals, recognized by the American Medical Association, who collaborate with physicians to deliver prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts a 23% increase in job opportunities for Athletic Trainers through 2030, compared to an 8% projected increase in all occupations.

Where can you find athletic trainers?

  • Public and private secondary schools, colleges and universities
  • Professional and Olympic sports
  • Youth leagues, municipal and independently owned youth sports facilities
  • Physician offices as physician extenders—similar to nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists and other professional clinical personnel
  • Rural and urban hospitals and emergency rooms; urgent and ambulatory care centers
  • Clinics with specialties in sports medicine, cardiac rehab, medical fitness, wellness and physical therapy
  • Occupational health departments in commercial settings, which include manufacturing, distribution and offices to assist with ergonomics
  • Performing arts including collegiate and professional-level dance and music
  • Police and fire departments and academies; municipal departments; branches of the military

The Franklin College MSAT faculty have a wide range of experiences with many years of professional service. From the sidelines to the court; from the Olympics to IndyCar; from professional collaboration to published journal articles and presentations, the Franklin College MSAT faculty have the expertise and real-life experiences needed to create a unique and valuable learning environment. Faculty pride themselves on close relationships with students that extend far beyond graduation and feel rewarded by helping students achieve the skills and knowledge needed for a career in athletic training.

Accreditation

The Franklin College MSAT program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. The program received 10-year accreditation status in 18-19 with the next comprehensive review scheduled for 2028-2029. The inaugural cohort of the MSAT program graduated in May 2018.
