What is it?

CampGRIZ is an academic summer camp bringing together students who will be entering 5th through 10th grade in Fall 2027. Campers learned from Franklin College faculty in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts, and interacted with Franklin College students and alumni to gain a real-world perspective on the benefits of higher education.

Through college readiness and community-building activities, CampGRIZ strives to prepare youth for the future with the information, resources, and mindset to experience the world with curiosity, understanding, and self-confidence.

When is it?

June 7-11, 2027

CampGRIZ will be held on the Franklin College campus June 7-11, 2027.

Hours

9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

Cost

The cost is $275 per camper. Campers who qualify for Free or Reduced Price Lunch through their school can register at no cost.

Meals

Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks will be provided each day to all campers at no additional cost.

Who is it for?

CampGRIZ was designed for youth entering 5th– 10th grades for the Fall 2027 school year.

When does registration open?

Registration will open in early 2027.

Transportation

Limited free bus transportation is provided for Marion County and rural Johnson County campers.

What will I do?

Choose from one of five hands-on learning experiences. Attendees will have the opportunity to discover nature, create clay art, build electric go-karts and more. Learn more about the experiences below.

  • Avian Adventures

    Avian Adventures

    Take flight with science this summer! Our bird-themed STEM camp invites curious minds to explore the fascinating world of avian biology through hands-on adventures and research experiences. Campers will band geese alongside wildlife biologists, dissect owl pellets to uncover predator-prey secrets, and master the physics of flight with gliders and feather experiments. Build birdhouses, design nests, and contribute real data to citizen science projects while sharpening observation skills through birdwatching and sound mapping. From nature journaling to a thrilling raptor demonstration, every day blends discovery, creativity, and conservation—making this camp an unforgettable journey from nest to sky!

     

  • CSI: Franklin

    CSI: Franklin

    Put yourself in the mind of a crime scene investigator to solve mysteries this summer! Learn all there is to know about the science behind collecting and analyzing evidence from a crime scene, including DNA and fingerprint analysis, unknown powder investigation, and more. Investigate and solve a crime scene yourself!

     

     

  • The ElectroKART Lab

    The ElectroKART Lab

    Build. Charge. Race! Are you ready to hit the fast lane this summer? Join us this summer for an electrifying adventure where you will uncover the secrets behind electric vehicles and clean energy! Design, build, and race your own electric go-kart, power it using solar-charged stations you create, and learn how the sun drives all the excitement!

    As a bonus, you will also have opportunity to build and launch a giant catapult.

     

     

  • Clay Creations

    Clay Creations

    Discover the magic of building clay pieces from the ground up! Try out cool techniques like slab, coil, and pinch construction. Take a spin creating your next masterpiece on the pottery wheel. Finish your pieces with glaze and firing it in the kiln. It’s going to be hands-on fun!

    Are you ready for the coolest week of summer? Get ready to find the truth and share it with the world. Welcome to journalism! Each day is a different adventure: learn to write a perfect news story, grab a mic and interview friends on a podcast, embark on a photography scavenger hunt, learn to spot fake news, and investigate a mystery. Transform into a curious and resourceful reporter ready to take on the world!
