CampGRIZ is an academic summer camp bringing together students entering 6th-9th grade for the Fall 2024 school year. Campers will learn from Franklin College faculty in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts, while also interacting with Franklin College students and alumni in order to gain a real-world perspective on the benefits of higher education. CampGRIZ is committed to preparing youth for their future with the information, resources and mindset to experience the world with curiosity, understanding, and self-confidence.
CampGRIZ will be held on the Franklin College campus June 10 -14, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
CampGRIZ is designed for youth entering 6th– 9th grades for the Fall 2024 school year.
There are five hands-on learning experiences to choose from at CampGRIZ.
AquaQuest: A Deep Dive into Stream Ecology — Do you love nature and having fun outdoors? Are you fascinated by the way the natural world works? Join our team of ecologists and wade into the wonders of stream ecology. Every day, we’ll immerse ourselves in local streams to learn about water sampling, macroinvertebrates, and fishes! In AquaQuest: A Deep Dive into Stream Ecology, you’ll learn cool techniques that environmental biologists use to monitor the health of streams and the critters that call them home.
Creative Writing —Are you creative? Do you enjoy telling stories or making up rhymes? In Creative Writing, you’ll learn the process of creating stories, poems, and personal essays, drawing inspiration from published authors as you complete a masterpiece of your own.
Catapults and Trebuchets — Do you enjoy science or have a talent for working with your hands? Have you ever wondered how a catapult can throw heavy objects through the air? By registering for Catapults & Trebuchets, you’ll learn the practical applications of physics as you construct and operate a real catapult.
Clay Creations — Do you enjoy getting your hands dirty and creating with clay? Come join Clay Creations and discover the magic of building clay pieces from the ground up! You’ll get to try out cool techniques like slab, coil, and pinch construction. It’s going to be hands on fun!
Startup Camp —Are you a leader, builder, or innovator of tomorrow? Startup Camp is an active, energetic, dream-building experience that combines practical lessons about entrepreneurship with hands-on creativity, allowing students to tinker, test, and lay the foundation for their own startups.
Registration is now open for the Summer 2024 camp.
Paperwork can be submitted through this webpage or by mail. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Acceptance to your camp of choice is not guaranteed until your paperwork has been processed.
Transportation arrangements for the 2024 camp are pending. Stay tuned for updates.
Before and after care arrangements for the 2024 camp will be provided by the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson County.
