The Franklin College Music Department will present a Faculty Recital on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. The recital will take place in Custer Theatre, located on the first floor of Old Main. The event is free and open to the public.

Faculty performing include:

Eric DeForest, D.M.A. – Voice. DeForest is an assistant professor of music. He is also director of vocal and choral activities and co-chair of the music department. He is a classically trained opera singer and has performed nationally and internationally. DeForest has a bachelor’s degree in music from State University of New York, a master’s degree in music from West Virginia University and a doctorate in music from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a resident of Indianapolis.

Chang Shen, M.A. Piano. Shen serves as the piano accompanist for Franklin College. He has a bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory and a master’s degree from Towson University, both located in Maryland. He is a resident of Franklin.

Jonathan Rice, D.M.A. – Saxophone. Rice is a lecturer of music theory and applied woodwinds. He has a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University, master’s degrees from Texas Tech University and the University of Arizona, and a doctorate in music from Texas Tech University. Rice is a resident of Franklin.

Josh Torres, M.A. – Percussion. Torres is a lecturer of music. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in music from Butler University. He also serves as director of percussion at Center Grove High School. He is a resident of Indianapolis.

Randy Greenwell, M.A. – Trumpet. Greenwell is a professor of music and director of band and brass studio. He has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Illinois State University, a wind conducting master’s degree from Ball State University and an educational administration master’s degree from Butler University. Greenwell has been playing the trumpet semi-professionally for over 40 years. He currently serves as the executive director of the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA). He is a resident of Indianapolis.

Devyn Kerr ’23, M.M. – Voice. Kerr is a lecturer of music. She has a bachelor of arts degree from Franklin College and master’s degree in music from Bard College in Massachusetts. Although her classical music training began six years ago at Franklin College, Kerr has been performing from a young age. She is a resident of Indianapolis.
