The Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) selected Franklin College Director of Library Services and Assessment Jessica Mahoney as a member of its fifth ICI Leadership Academy. The year-long program provides professional development for faculty and staff at private, nonprofit colleges and universities in Indiana. The college identified Mahoney as someone whose leadership will be critical for the continued success of the institution.
“Jessica’s participation in the ICI Leadership Academy as an academic librarian and campus leader will provide the cohort with a unique perspective on the role that libraries can and should play in strategic planning, academic programming, and student support,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, Kristin C. Flora, Ph.D. “In turn, she will have the opportunity to learn from colleagues across the state who occupy different roles and bring back that knowledge to inform her work. As a respected member of the campus community, I’m excited for Jessica to have this opportunity and know she will represent Franklin College well.”
Through the ICI Leadership Academy, Mahoney will gain valuable insight into the college’s peer institutions. The leadership competencies developed through this program will assist continued growth and development. In keeping with the college’s liberal arts tradition, the program will provide Mahoney with a holistic view of the institution and the regional higher education environment.
“As Indiana’s private colleges navigate a rapidly evolving higher education landscape, investing in leadership at every level has never been more crucial,” says Laura Bridges, Vice President and COO of ICI. She continues, “The ICI Leadership Academy is designed to equip emerging leaders with the skills and perspectives they need to foster innovation and success on their campuses.”
Mahoney joined Franklin College in January 2011. Previously, she taught English at Seymour Community Schools. Mahoney holds a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education and teaching from Franklin College and a Master of Library Science from Indiana University. She is a resident of Franklin.
