The Write Place

The Write Place, located in room 303 in the Academic Resource Center, is a resource area for students to work on their writing with the assistance of trained tutors. Students at all levels of college work are encouraged to bring in drafts in order to get feedback about structure, word usage, clarity and other important aspects of the writing. The tutors are faculty members or skilled upper-level students. If you'd like a teaching career, being a Write Place tutor can help give you the knowledge and background that provides an excellent first step.

When coming to the Write Place, keep in mind that the meetings are not meant to be "editing" sessions; the tutors do not proofread entire papers for grammatical mistakes. While they will help with specific grammatical questions, students have the responsibility of checking their work for errors.

For more information on the Write Place, please contact Kathy Carlson. Currently enrolled FC students can view the Write Place schedule and sign up for appointments online on MyFC.

A Note to Interested Write Place Tutor Applicants

Students interested in being a Write Place tutor must have completed LA102 and should be recommended by a professor. Students may also contact the Write Place director, Kathy Carlson, for more information. This is a work-study position, but volunteers are also appreciated.
