What to Bring to College
The Necessities
(These are items that we strongly suggested for each resident.)
- Alarm clock
- Bandages/aspirin and other necessary medications
- Basic kitchen needs (silverware, manual can opener, microwave-safe dishes, cups, dish towel & dish soap)
- Bathrobe
- Bucket or some sort of carrier to carry items to the bathroom
- Camera
- Computer (PC with Windows with XP Pro w/ Service Pack 3 or Windows Vista with Service Pack 2, Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software or Mac OSX – 10.3 or better)
- Decorator items (plants, posters, pictures)
- Desk lamp/study lamp
- Fan
- Flashlight
- Hangers for clothes
- Iron & ironing board
- Laundry detergent/dryer softeners and laundry basket/bag
- Linens (mattresses are extra long - 36 x 80)(mattress cover, sheet set, blanket and/or comforter, pillow, towels & washcloths)
- Memo board for room door
- Personal items (soap, Kleenex, hair needs, mirror, toiletries)
- Quarters (for vending & laundry machines: washer = .75/load; dryer = .50/load)
- Raincoat/umbrella
- Schools supplies (paper, pens, scissors, 3-ring notebook, stapler, computer disks)
- Sewing kit
- Shower shoes (to walk to the bathroom and for showers)
- Sports equipment and favorite games (rollerblades, cards)
- Surge protector/power strip - should be UL rated and grounded
Other Items
(We suggest meeting with your roommate to determine who will bring these items.)
- Television/VCR/DVD
- Microwave (One per room, 700 watt maximum)
- Stereo/radio
- Extra furniture (small sofa/chair)
- Refrigerator (One per room - 3.6 cubic feet in size)
- Carpets and rugs

- Candles and incense
- Double-sided foam tape
- Extension cords or multiple receptacle plugs
- Halogen and heat lamps
- Open-coil cooking devices (hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, indoor grills)
- Pets (other than fish in aquariums of 10 gallons or less)
- Space heaters
- Window air conditioners
