Danny DeWitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND

Danny DeWitt was a familiar sight on the sidelines of athletic competitions in Franklin. From little league games to adult softball leagues, from high school football games to Franklin College basketball, Franklin athletes could count on seeing Danny cheering them on. No fair-weather fan, Danny was ever-loyal to Franklin's teams. Though he had Down's Syndrome, Danny never allowed that to be an obstacle in his life. He worked for the Franklin Boys & Girls Club for 20 years and was honored by the Franklin Chamber of Commerce for outstanding youth service. Following his death in 1994, friends and family contributed to establish the Danny DeWitt Endowed Scholarship. "His connection with the College started when we moved here in the late '60's," said Danny's younger brother, David DeWitt '85. "He always frequented the College campus where he could be in contact with the administrators, the faculty and especially the students."
