Scholarship Details
William H. Book Memorial Endowed Scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND
Franklin College has been fortunate to be associated with many great men and women throughout its history. When one recounts the inspirational leaders who have passed through Franklin's halls, surely Bill Book must be among them. A 1919 Franklin graduate, he was executive vice president of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce from 1934 to 1964. His contributions and accomplishments were so great that, a month after his death in 1965, his likeness dominated the cover of the Chamber's 75th anniversary publication. Though his work focused on the Chamber, Mr. Book was less concerned with business than with people. He was chairman of the Indiana chapter of the Red Cross and served many years as chair of its disaster committee. Mr. Book was on hand assisting victims during the Coatesville tornado, the Coliseum explosion and other disasters throughout Central Indiana. Mr. Book was secretary of the Franklin College Board of Trustees, and served on the boards of many other organizations. He received an honorary degree from the College.
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
After his death, the William H. Book Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established. Students from the Indianapolis area with good academic standing are qualified to receive the award. Selection is made by the financial aid office.
