Scholarship Details
David and Patty Mickel Endowed Scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND
The David and Patty Mickel Endowed Scholarship was established in 2005 through the generosity of longtime Johnson County residents, David and Patty Mickel, as a lasting tribute to David's grandmother, Leota Rose Denny Mickel '18. Leota Rose Denny entered Franklin College in the fall of 1914. A native of Madison, Indiana, Leota was a student of piano, voice and harmony and a member of Pi Beta Phi. She left Franklin after two years to marry Wilburn Mickel, brother of Mildred Mickel Hoover '23. Recognizing that all students desiring a college education may not be at the top of their high school classes, the purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who may not be qualified for a traditional academic scholarship but who demonstrate the potential to be successful students, alumni and citizens.
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
The Mickel Endowed Scholarship will be awarded with first consideration to students not in the top 20% of their high school graduating classes. The scholarship may be renewed annually, provided the student maintains good academic standing and continued financial need.
