Walter & Bettye Surface Endowed Scholarship


SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND

Walter "Bud" Surface graduated from Franklin College in 1932. A member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a star on the football team, he was a popular and successful student who went on to serve as president of his own insurance agency in Seymour, IN.. He received an Athletic Achievement Award in 1982 from the college. Mr. Surface and his wife, Bettye, were faithful supporters of the college. Mr. Surface firmly believed in the value of philanthropy and particularly in helping students to succeed and earn a quality education. To that end, he and his wife established the Walter and Bettye Surface Endowed Scholarship to help students from their hometown of Seymour.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

In awarding the Surface Endowed Scholarship, first preference will be given to students graduating from Seymour High School in Seymour, IN. Second preference will be to students from Jackson County. Students receiving the scholarship must have maintained a 2.0 GPA in high school and will be expected to do likewise while receiving the scholarship. The financial aid office will select the recipients of the scholarship.
