Mary Jane Schroeder Endowed Scholarship


SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND

An excellent and active student, Mary Jane Schroeder graduated cum laude from Franklin College in 1936. She was a campus leader and served as an officer of her senior class. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, appeared in theater productions and was inducted into the theater honorary, Theta Alpha Phi. On the weekends, Ms. Schroeder taught Sunday school classes to children at the Indiana Masonic Home. She was a favorite of the students there and received glowing recommendations upon her graduation as she set out for a career in education. She was hired as supervisor of the National Youth Administration in Shelby County, a position she held for more than 20 years. Upon her death, the Mary Jane Schroeder Endowed Scholarship was established to enable worthy students to pursue an education at Franklin College.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

The Mary Jane Schroeder Endowed Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen, based upon their academic record, Christian character, personality and ability. The financial aid office, with advice from high school principals, selects the recipients.
