Scholarship Details

Dean and Vera Evans Arsenal Technical High School Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND

Dean Evans remembers that, at the end of his sophomore year at Franklin College, he feared he would have to leave the college because he couldn't afford tuition. An anonymous benefactor stepped up with a scholarship to cover his last two years, and Dr. Evans was able to graduate. Vera Evans also attended Franklin College on a scholarship, and both are grateful for the assistance that enabled them to attend the college where they met, and where they earned the education that has shaped their lives. Dr. Evans went on to serve as superintendent of public instruction under Indiana Gov. Robert Orr. Mrs. Evans taught school until the birth of the couple's sons. They established the Dean and Vera Evans Arsenal Technical High School Scholarship in order to give today's students the same chance for a Franklin College education that they received. Dr. Evans graduated from Arsenal Technical High School.
