Franklin College shall offer a Master of Science in Athletic Training of recognized excellence committed to preparing future athletic training professionals to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered healthcare in a variety of settings to physically active patients.
The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program provides high quality education to prepare students for service and leadership in their profession and communities. Upon completion of the professional-level graduate degree, students become eligible to challenge the national certifying examination for athletic trainers through the Board of Certification (BOC). The hallmark of the MSAT program is students’ immersion in a variety of clinical experiences allowing them to apply knowledge and skills, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice to provide patient-centered care under direct supervision of experienced athletic trainers and other allied health professionals. The curriculum provides opportunities to develop and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills, interprofessional communication, ethical and professional behaviors, and participate in professional development activities. Further, students develop scholarly competence to assist in expanding the body of knowledge within the field of athletic training.
- Think creatively and critically – Master’s Athletic Training students will exhibit clinical reasoning skills to recognize, analyze, synthesize information related to the discipline of athletic training and use evidence to answer clinical questions and guide clinical practice.
- Communicate and interact effectively – Master’s Athletic Training students will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Develop behaviors of professional practice – Master’s Athletic Training students will understand and engage in ethically and socially responsible behaviors in a landscape that involves increasing diversity.
- Develop scholarly competence – Master’s Athletic Training students will become skillful in developing and conducting research and/or creative activities related to healthcare for the physically active population.
