Betsy Schmidt is a 1985 Franklin College graduate and has been the director of research and records for institutional advancement since 1989.

She oversees prospect research systems and grant requests to potential funding sources. In addition, Schmidt represents the college through her participation in various community groups, including the Franklin and Greenwood Chambers of Commerce, the United Way of Johnson County, the Franklin Women's Symphony Committee , the Johnson County Community Foundation, Human Services/Head Start and the Friends of the Johnson County Public Library. For ten years, she chaired the annual Johnson County Courthouse Lighting Celebration, an event that kicks off the holidays for the city of Franklin.

While a college student, Schmidt was a member of Alpha Mu Gamma, Delta Mu Delta and the Alpha Academic Honor Society. After graduating from Franklin College with a degree in Spanish, she went on to earn a master's in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of Indianapolis. Her memberships include the Grant Professionals Association and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement. She has made presentations at state and regional professional conferences on the topics of fundraising research, prospect management, proposal writing and community service.

Schmidt is a lifelong Franklin resident and a graduate of the Leadership Johnson County program. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending local sporting and cultural events and participating in her church.
