Professor Joel Cramer earned a B.A. in biblical literature from Olivet Nazarene University in 1982. He then earned an M.A. in speech (broadcasting) from Central Michigan University in 1985. Cramer earned his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1993. He has been on the Franklin College faculty since the fall of 1985.

Cramer teaches media law and media ethics courses in the journalism core as well as the broadcast journalism sequence. Since joining the faculty he has served as the faculty advisor for WFCI-FM, a non-commercial educational station licensed to Franklin College.

Cramer has a wide range of interests external to the college. He is a sport scuba diver, loves to ski and studies the martial arts. He is also an active member of the Westside Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis.
